Reno’s Riverwalk is a fantastic place to bring the family for fun quality time together! Whether you aim to swing sky-high at an area park, get a quick cool down with water play, head to one of the many entertaining events, or grab a bite to eat that everyone will enjoy, head downtown for that next outing with the whole crew.
Park it!
Barbara Bennett Park is right next to the Truckee River — get ready for all sorts of fun activities here including a playground for the kiddos, basketball and tennis courts to practice some skills, access to the river, and plenty of grass perfect to lay out a blanket and soak up the sun. Head to City Plaza for a sight you’ll have to see to “Believe!” It’ll be a “whaley” great time as the family enjoys the larger-than-life art. Bring those scooters and skateboards to get the full experience of zipping around the concrete pad.
Water Play
The Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield Park is open year-round and offers the thrill of kayaking, canoeing, inner tubing, and whitewater rafting to those skilled enough to take on the rapids. The littles will love watching the sportsmen glide by and can splash around in the shallow pools lining the river, too. At Idlewild Park, take a dip in the swimming pool or cool off in the water play feature; while there you can explore fun playgrounds, a train ride, a skate park, volleyball court, and baseball/softball fields for added fun.
Family Friendly Events
Check out all the Riverwalk merchants and more during the monthly Rush the River event held every third Saturday. Experience eclectic food options and plenty of shopping opportunities for all-local, handmade, and uniquely Nevada food and products. And head to Greater Nevada Field, home to Triple-A Baseball’s Reno Aces, for a night at the ball game like no other.
Greater Nevada Field is not just the home of the Reno Aces, it is a venue that hosts major regional and national events with something for everyone – such as Nitro Circus Live, concerts, and more.
Grab Some Grub
Kid-friendly dining abound along the Riverwalk District. At Papa What You Cooking, patrons enjoy meals made from recipes passed down generations and the soul food will make your tastebuds sing. Grab-and-go or sit for a bit at Liberty Food & Wine Exchange with hand-crafted, shareable plates combining international cuisine with the flavors of Northern Nevada produce and products. If tacos are what your family is after, head to Antonio’s Mexican Grill for some delicious, authentic cuisine. Top off a great meal with a chocolatey treat from Dorinda’s Chocolates, serving all-natural hand-dipped chocolates, created by Dorinda Vance.
Whether it’s a memorable meal, a special event, a dip in the river, or speeding down a slide, Reno’s downtown Riverwalk is a mecca for family fun!
