How far would you travel for deep-friend raviolis? Or braised wild boar?

If you are a foodie, travel as far as Reno. This month, the city has several food-themed events and festivals on tap. Those include the Dine the District Food Tour on Oct. 5; the Eldorado Great Italian Festival Oct. 12 and 13; and Reno Bites restaurant week Oct. 20-27.

Dine the District, a self-guided tour of Reno restaurants, runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 5. Guests will enjoy entertainment and culinary offerings from Reno-area restaurants, including the Wild River Grille, Java Jungle, West Street Wine Bar, Campo, Noble Pie Company, Fuego for Tapas & Vino and the Imperial Bar & Lounge. This is the second year for the event sponsored by the Reno Riverwalk Merchants Association. Proceeds will go toward continued development of the Riverwalk District in Reno.

Tickets cost $25 the day of the event, and will be limited to 600. The event is free for children age 10 and younger. Participants will need to present their ticket receipts to the Reno Tahoe Visitor Center inside the Reno eNYy store, 135 N. Sierra St., where they will receive a food tour map as their formal admission to the self-guided tour. To buy tickets, visit the website

The Eldorado Great Italian Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 12 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 in downtown Reno. Activities include a pasta sauce tasting ($3 for a pasta bowl for tasting), a grape stomp (free to watch) and a kids’ gelato-eating contest. Vendors will be offering Italian fare — including those deep-fried raviolis — and the Eldorado will serve up its Famous Italian Dinner Buffet at 4 p.m. Oct. 12 and 13 in the Eldorado Convention Center. Cost for the buffet: $26.99, $13.99 kids ages 10 and younger.

In addition to Italian food, the festival offers free live entertainment on outdoor stages throughout the weekend as well as a Ferrari car display and bocce ball, among other activities. For more, visit the website

Reno Bites restaurant week, Oct. 20-27, features locally owned restaurants and chefs. About 20 participating restaurants — including Beaujolais Bistro, Chuy’s Mexican Kitchen and Men Wielding Fire — will present one or more of the following: a signature item or specialty price point for something the restaurant regularly offers; a three-course, prix fixe menu at a lower price point; or a signature event, which showcases an out-of-the-box menu or something the restaurant’s chefs excel at preparing. (One of those signature events, the Oct. 24th Wild and Whiskey with Wild River Grille, is where you can sample braised wild boar stuffed in delicata squash.)
